Harmonia and Cadmus

Harmonia and Cadmus
(2017)
Giclée print, 85 x 60cm
Edition of ten
When I first found a mention of Harmonia, I was struck to discover that she was the daughter of Aphrodite and Ares, so by birthright on a level with the deities of the pantheon, but she remains an incidental sideline, a wife given as a trophy to the hero Cadmus. When he is transformed into a snake, she begs for the same. Expressions of romantic love are rare in classical myth (and heterosexual love particularly so), and I felt that she deserved time, care and reverence.
